How far along are you? 35 weeks!
How big is the baby? babycenter.com says he's 5.5 lbs and 18 inches long. I had my last ultrasound in early January and won't have another one...so, we'll just be surprised by his actual size on April 4. My guess is that he'll be in the 8- 9lb range.
Maternity clothes? yes, and getting sick of them. Bought a few new spring items to help me survive the warmer months, but hoping to be back into my "normal" clothes quicker than last time.
Weight - Loss or Gain? I've gained 30 lbs total so far. The recommended/normal weight gain during the last month is 1 lb per week...so predicting to finish around 35 lbs. Would be a 10-15 lb improvement over last time. Having a toddler who keeps me moving constantly has certainly helped.
Stretch marks? A few new ones have appeared in the last few weeks on my stomach. Oh well. They are a nice souvenir for each of my pregnancies, I guess.
Sleep? Sleep wouldn't be a problem if it weren't for acid reflux, which has been an issue over the past 2 weeks. Trying to be more aware of my diet and the foods that can make it worse. Foods to avoid: Tomatoes, Italian food with tomato-based sauce, creamy salad dressings, caffeine, citrus fruits & juices, chocolate, french fries and potato chips. Also, trying to eat smaller meals and nothing right before bedtime.
Any movement? All the time. He gets the hiccups daily and is very active in there. Weird to watch & feel at this stage.
Food Cravings? Water and milk. Oh, and the doughnuts that I had to have on Sat morning.
Food Aversions? Not really. Still avoiding onions and garlic, but that's about it.
Belly Button in or out? I don't know if I would call it in or out. Just gone. :) I hope it remembers where it's supposed to go after this is all over.
What do you miss? Shopping for non-maternity clothes. I've missed my favorite stores...Anthropologie and Fabric.
What are you looking forward to? Brady!! T- minus 30 days!
What was the BEST part of this week? Got my annual bonus and raise on Friday at work. That's always pretty exciting! Also cleaned and redecorated our bedroom....found the perfect picture to go above our bed, moved a shelf upstairs for all my jewelry and "stuff" and got the bassinet set up.
What was the WORST part of this week? Nothing comes to mind. The acid reflux has not been fun, but I guess that's my only complaint right now.
Weekly Wisdom? You can never take too many baths.
Milestones: 1 month until Tate's second birthday and Brady's arrival!

sprinkle
While a "shower" is only typically thrown for the first baby, it's become common to host a "sprinkle" to celebrate any additional children. Since we're having another boy and already have everything we need, even a sprinkle seemed a little excessive...so maybe we should call this a mist...or a dew (?) :)
Either way, my friend Keri was sweet to arrange a painting class with some of our close friends, which turned out to be so much fun! The instructor walked us through each step of the process and I thought everyone's painting turned out great! I'm already looking forward to signing up to do it again soon....

inquiring minds
I have a lot of stuff to post about....our fun Thanksgiving week on SSI, Tate's transition to a "big boy bed", Bayer's nursery progress, and even the final descent of the infamous Mickey balloon (1 mo, 2 days)...but I haven't felt like uploading pictures...or thinking/writing in complete sentences for that matter. So, I'll leave you with my latest pregnancy quiz instead...
How far along are you? 22 weeks
How big is the baby? I don't know. But if I had to guess, I would say BIG!!!!
Maternity clothes? I may omit this question going forward, you know the answer.
Weight - Loss or Gain? I've gained somewhere between 15-18 lbs. With 18 weeks to go, I'm predicting that I'll land around the 40 lb mark. Not terrible, but enough to receive predictable lectures from Dr. Soufi between now and April about watching my weight. "But the baby neeeeds Chick-fil-a!" J/K. I do eat the occasional fast food meal, but we've been much better about eating at home. We have a toddler, we have no choice.
Stretch marks? Can we also eliminate this question? Otherwise, I can continue to remind you that yes, yes I got stretch marks the first time. I will probably get them this time, too. I promise never to wear a bikini again.
Sleep? Mostly normal, but here I am blogging after 1am while Keith's been asleep for hours.
Any movement? Feeling him move a lot more lately, all day long. This is the best part of being pregnant.
Food Cravings? Nothing specific. I require protein in the mornings- mainly in the form of eggs. That's about the extent of my quirkiness.
Food Aversions? Anything minty, particularly the taste of gum. Blech. Chocolate is still pretty gross, too.
Gender? Another unnecessary question. Boy, Boy, Boy. I'm taking this one out next time, also.
Belly Button in or out? In.
What do you miss? Full, deep breaths. There is already not room for my lungs to expand to their desired capacity.
What are you looking forward to? Finishing both boys' new rooms. I bought Tate the Ryder (train) bedding from PBKids and just need to 1) swap our queen bed for Lindsey's full, 2) move the dresser/hutch into the nursery and buy him a new bookcase (found one at Ikea), and 3) paint.
In Bayer's room, I need to 1) paint, 2) organize his closet, 3) and get the dresser/hutch set up. I ordered this really cute (I hope) tree decal that will go on one of the walls and I'm painting his room light blue, so even though I'm reusing Tate's bedding, it will still feel sort of new.
What was the BEST part of this week? Getting our carpets cleaned! We have a few stains that, unfortunately, seem to be permanent, but otherwise, they look as new as 15-year-old carpets can be. And, the timing could not have been better....during the initial walk-through with the cleaning guy, I spilled my entire cup of coffee all over our dining room carpets!
What was the WORST part of this week? Let's see...was it walking into the hair salon today and being asked by my hairdresser if I was having twins? Or, stabbing myself with a knife during an art project yesterday? Or, maybe not having heat in my car this week?
I pick the first one. I really try, but I just don't have patience for people and their comments this time around. Whereas I might have smiled and laughed it off before, I politely responded, "you know I'm not having twins. Are you calling me fat??" To which he replied, "um, no. I, um, just couldn't, um, remember...." Thus, a very long and silent 2-hour cut and color with a lot of pretend BlackBerrying.
Weekly Wisdom? I have a lot of wisdom this week:
1) If you come upon a pregnant person , only say positive things about her appearance. If she is fat or has gained a lot of weight, she probably already knows this. And by all means, do not make any comments unless you are 100% sure she is pregnant in the first place. I was a bystander to this awkward situation earlier this week.
2) Pregnant people can say things (even adamantly) and then completely change their minds and that's ok.
3) 9 months is not too long to endure the trials of pregnancy. Today's minor annoyances, will be tomorrow's funny memories. "ha, ha. Remember when you called me fat that one time??"

4) Don't rake the yard while there are still leaves on the trees. Those will fall, too.
5) Never underestimate the power of a toddler's hug and kiss to melt your heart and brighten your day.
6) Money is temporary. Diamond earrings are forever. (Keith? Are you reading this?)
Milestones: More than half-way there!! And, Tate's move to a big boy bed is another significant milestone in the Golden household! 5 successful nights so far of no whining or getting up. (knock on wood that it continues!)

survey says...
How far along are you? 18 weeks (17 weeks, 6 days to be exact)
How big is the baby? Had an ultrasound this week and they estimated 9 oz. A quick check on babycenter.com reveals that 5-7 oz is average at this point in the pregnancy. I might as well get used to the idea that I'm having another 9lb baby...
Maternity clothes? Every day.
Weight - Loss or Gain? Up to 10 lbs so far. Doing better this time around on the weight gain, but still look bigger than I should be. I had a tennis match on Tuesday and I think the other team thought I was going to give birth on the court.
Stretch marks? Nothing new.
Sleep? Still pretty normal. Getting at least 8 hrs at night and sometimes a short nap during the day when my workload allows. (A nice benefit of working from home!)
Any movement? Yep! The movements are still pretty subtle and I only feel them at night.
Food Cravings? Lots of juice (lately I've been drinking Tate's Capri-Sun juice boxes) and fruit....particularly Gala apples, clementines and little fruit cups. Oh, and Sour Patch Kids.
Food Aversions? I wouldn't say it's an aversion, but chocolate doesn't taste good to me right now. I still eat it from time to time to see if anything's changed, but it hasn't so far. Same for graham crackers. I guess I won't be making s'mores this winter.
Gender? Blue!
Belly Button in or out? In.
What do you miss? Champagne. The fake stuff isn't cutting it.
What are you looking forward to? I'm taking a half day off work tomorrow and meeting my friend Keri for lunch and then treating myself to a mani/pedi/ pre-natal massage.
What was the BEST part of this week? Halloween with Tate was a blast, but I also enjoyed seeing the ultrasounds of Bayer this week.
What was the WORST part of this week? Nothing comes to mind. I've been frustrated in general with trying to keep the house clean, but that's nothing new.
Weekly Wisdom? My words of advice this week are to turn the tv off and spend quality time with your kids. Keith and I are both guilty of having the tv on in the background almost all the time, so it's a reminder for me as much as anyone.
Milestones: Hmmm....nothing in terms of the pregnancy, but Tate reached a new milestone of bringing home 3 "boo-boo reports" in one week. Carpet burn on his face and not 1, but 2 bite marks on his back!

comparing profiles
See any resemblance??
In this picture, Bayer has his head tilted back, so it's hard to tell whether he has the same chin/ mouth/ jaw shape as Tate, but I see the similarity in their noses. We go back on November 30 for our 22-week ultrasound - hoping we can get another picture to compare!
Getting excited about Bayer's arrival in less than 5 months. Having a name and a now a "face" makes it seem more real...

what's in a name?
Only everything! Naming a child is no easy task...
If you select something too common, your child could become one of many Jacobs or Taylors in his class and could possibly get lost in the shuffle. If you choose something too strange, your child could become the target of ridicule and bullying, requiring years of therapy to rebuild his/her self-esteem. Plus, if this is not your first child, you have the added complication of making sure that the names of siblings match in terms of style and sound. (Ruling out the names Gates or Kate for our future children)
We are making life-long, future-shaping decisions here - talk about pressure!
In summary, here is our naming criteria:
So, with all of that in mind, it's kind of amazing that we were able to narrow it down and decide on a name at all. After several naming conversations and a long lists of rejects, Keith and I discovered our name at the most unlikely of places...the soccer fields across the street from our neighborhood. As one boy called out to another by this particular name, I did a quick mental scan through my criteria and my eyes lit up thinking maybe this was "the one". I cautiously approached Keith with the name, hoping he would like it as much as I did. Much to my relief, I was met not only with a huge smile, but a high five. A true sign of success. Done!
Without further ado, we are excited to announce that we'll be welcoming James "Bayer" Golden in the spring. Little Man Tate can't wait to meet the Golden Bear.
Editor's Note: I like the names Jacob and Taylor, as well as many names that end in "n"....even ones that end in "n" on the top 100 list. This post reflects my opinions about naming our child and by no means is meant to offend anyone who does not conform and adhere to my stringent naming convention. You may have noticed that I am type-A and slightly OCD. You may also not like the name we've chosen. That's fine, too. :)

We are making life-long, future-shaping decisions here - talk about pressure!
In summary, here is our naming criteria:
- Must be unusual, but not weird. (no made-up names)
- Must not be used by any family or friends. (this applies only to the name he will go by - not both the first and middle names. Fortunately for us, Keith forgot that his good friend Shane has a son named Tate)
- Must not be on the "top 100" name list. (again, this applies only to the name he will go by)
- Must sound athletic. (on the mound tonight is....)
- Must also be able to easily follow after "the law office of..."
- Must not end with the letter "n". (just a personal preference since our last name is Golden)
- Must find a name that is not associated with any bad experiences Keith has had in his 10+ years of teaching and coaching more than 1000 kids. (this one can be tricky)
- Since Tate goes by his middle name (William Tate), we'd like to stick with the same naming strategy for #2.
- Must be 2 syllables. (again, personal preference - sounds better with Tate)
- No nicknames on the birth certificate. (i.e. Name him Charles if you want to call him Charlie)
- Must not lend itself to obvious jokes or teasing. (i.e. Collier Golden sounds like you are calling your dog. We will also not be naming #2 "Tot" as several people have suggested)
So, with all of that in mind, it's kind of amazing that we were able to narrow it down and decide on a name at all. After several naming conversations and a long lists of rejects, Keith and I discovered our name at the most unlikely of places...the soccer fields across the street from our neighborhood. Pregnancy Quiz - Week 14
I stole this quiz from a friend's blog. I've enjoyed reading hers throughout her pregnancy, so I'll do my best to update this every month or so until #2 arrives in April.
How far along are you? 14 weeks and 4 days. (although I look MUCH further along)
How big is the baby? babycenter.com says he is 3.5 inches and weighs 1.5 ounces.
Maternity clothes? I finally gave in and am wearing maternity clothes full-time now. With Tate, I was able to wear my regular jeans, with the Bella Band, up until 18 weeks! (sigh)
Weight - Loss or Gain? In total, I've gained around 6 lbs.
Stretch marks? No new ones from this pregnancy, but plenty from the last one.
Sleep? Pretty normal, except for the occasional trip to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Sampras (the cat) now sleeps in the garage, so that's helped to eliminate the nightly 3am wake-up call for attention.
Any movement? I am pretty sure I've been feeling him move for about 2 weeks now. The movements are subtle and fluttery and mostly in the evenings after dinner when I'm sitting down.
Food Cravings? Juice (any kind) and green olives. I am particularly fond of cheddar cheese, olive and mayo sandwiches at the moment. I craved this with Tate, too.
Food Aversions? Onions and garlic - can't deal with the lingering effects of either.
Gender? Early signs indicate that we are having a BOY! I thought for sure this one would be a girl, but the ultrasound on Oct 5 was pretty convincing. Dr. Stone correctly predicted Tate was a boy at our 13 week appointment, so we'll see if he's 2 for 2 at our next ultrasound on Nov 2.
Belly Button in or out? In.
What do you miss? Energy. It's slowly starting to come back, but I'm still pretty much exhausted all the time. Growing a human being and having a toddler is a lot of work! I am also sad to miss the Decatur Beer Festival this year.
What are you looking forward to? The upcoming holidays with Tate. I have never, ever decorated for Halloween before and we have lights all over the front of our house this year. Christmas will be even more fun. It's exciting to revisit these holidays through the eyes of your own child.
What was the BEST part of this week? Shopping! I now have stuff to wear! I saved all of my maternity clothes from last time and based on the sheer lack of clothing, I'm not sure at all what I wore with Tate. Probably the same outfit every day. If so, I'm sorry.
What was the WORST part of this week? Monday was a very stressful day at work. I hosted a Webinar with 620 participants on a brand new platform and was faced with one issue after another while live on the call. Considering the circumstances, I handled it ok, but I definitely could have used a glass (bottle) of wine afterwards. Also, took Tate to his 18-month well visit on Wednesday and he had to get 3 shots. That's never fun, but we both survived.
Weekly Wisdom? I try to remind myself daily to cherish these moments with Tate. Even when I'm tired, achy, just want to go to bed...I try to remember that these are the "good old days" that we'll look back on and I want to live and enjoy his childhood to the fullest.
Milestones: No milestones for me or the baby, so I'll just share Tate's 18-month stats:

The post where I explain why I haven't been posting
I think this pretty much sums it up:

Yep....7 weeks pregnant with #2! I know that conventional wisdom and tradition holds that you should wait until 12 weeks to share the news, but we're throwing those rules out the window. We've had an ultrasound, seen the heartbeat, I've been nauseous for a week and a half...it feels pretty official to me!
The due date is April 12, but Dr. Soufi will likely schedule my c-section 2 weeks early. As long as I don't have 2 children with April Fool's Day birthdays, I'll be ok. Good grief - can you imagine?
So, that's the explanation for my blogging hiatus. I'll get back to posting our pics from the beach and everything else in between soon!
